This symposium is spearheaded by the Pizhen USR Project team of Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU). Rooted in the spirit of University Social Responsibility (USR), the project has long been dedicated to the hydrological culture and historical context of Taoyuan’s irrigation ponds. Guided by the core framework of "One Pond, One School, One Community," the initiative leverages the unique topography of Taoyuan’s irrigation ponds as a starting point. Through transdisciplinary collaboration, it bridges multiple elementary schools, new resident communities, and local organizations to advance environmental education, cultural memory preservation, site interpretation, and wetland conservation. These efforts foster community co-learning and regional prosperity, notably leading partner Xiaoli Elementary School to receive the Gold Medal of the Teaching Excellence Award from the Ministry of Education, and the Wetland Restoration Association to be honored with the Excellence Award (Group Category) at the Taoyuan Environmental Education Awards.

Furthermore, the CYCU College of Design serves as a co-organizer. Leveraging its profound expertise in design and planning, the College leads academic inquiries into issues such as design intervention, environmental resilience, and the revitalization of cultural heritage, further deepening the dialogue between theory and practice. The symposium is also supported by the Journal of Design Science and the Journal of Advanced Engineering, providing a platform for the dissemination of forward-looking research and proposing innovative strategies for the sustainable development of Taoyuan’s water culture.
